Edinburg, Texas, November 4 - The UT Rio Grande Valley Cowboys suffered a loss in their season opener, falling 96-81 to the Baylor Bears in Waco.
Guard Cameron Carr led Baylor with 24 points, while UTRGV's offense was fueled by Justin Johnson, who added 19 points. However, a lack of coordination, defensive errors, and poor three-point shooting proved costly.
Coach Matt Figger acknowledged the difficult start but expressed confidence that the team will find its rhythm as the season progresses. "We have young talent and a hunger to compete," he said.
UTRGV aims to establish itself as a South Texas powerhouse in the NCAA while continuing to promote college sports in the Valley region.
