South Padre Island, Texas, November 4 - Former South Padre Island Mayor Dennis Stahl was arrested Monday on charges of soliciting prostitution, the Cameron County Sheriff's Office reported.
According to the report, Stahl was detained following an undercover investigation involving several individuals in the tourist area. Authorities have not yet specified whether he will face additional charges.
The former official, who led the city council from 2018 to 2019, was released after posting $5,000 bail. Through his attorney, he denied the charges and asked that the public "wait for the facts to become clear."
A report of the incident obtained by ValleyCentral reveals that South Padre Island police received a complaint on October 1 about a possible solicitation of prostitution at a restaurant located in the 33384 block of State Park Road 100.
The arrest surprised the community, as Stahl was considered an active promoter of tourism and investment on the island.
